2D Polymer Batteries, LLC has announced patent-pending its conducting polymer-based cathode active material for sodium-ion and potassium-ion battery technologies. This new development is based on a proprietary composite cathode material designed to meet the diverse needs of modern applications. The key objectives of the technology include high specific energy, high specific power, safety, long cycle life, low cost, and minimizing environmental and social impact.

“Our organic polymer-based cathode active materials achieve a specific capacity exceeding 250 mAh/g. With a high average redox potential, transition metal-free chemistry, a metal-ion rocking chair-type charge-discharge mechanism, and the option to use a lean electrolyte, this combination is truly unique,” said Dr. Oleg Posudiievskyi, DSc, PhD, CTO, and co-founder of the company.

“Battery producers are increasingly interested in post-lithium technologies. However, the low capacity of existing cathode materials has been a significant barrier to their market penetration. With our new product, we offer an efficient solution to this challenge. Our technology represents a high level of maturity,” added Dr. Alex Posudevsky, PhD, CEO, and co-founder of 2D Polymer Batteries.

This innovation holds the potential to transform post-lithium battery technologies, paving the way for sustainable, high-performance energy storage solutions suitable for applications such as electric vehicles, renewable energy systems, and portable electronics.

2D Polymer Batteries, LLC has announced a patent-pending status for its new
conducting polymer-based lithium-ion battery technology. This breakthrough is centered on a proprietary composite cathode material designed to deliver high specific energy, high power output, safety, long lifespan, cost-efficiency, and sustainability for various applications.

“Our cathode material achieves an impressive specific capacity of 300 mAh/g at an average redox potential of 3.5 V versus Li+/Li. It uses a lithium-ion rocking-chair mechanism without relying on transition metals, resulting in batteries that require minimal electrolyte – a unique feature for conducting polymers,” said Oleg Posudiievskyi, DSc, PhD, CTO and co-founder of 2D Polymer Batteries.

“In addition, this technology delivers all these benefits at half the cost of LiFePO4 (LFP) batteries. The company has prioritized a simple and sustainable manufacturing process, utilizing water-based, solvent-free methods and standard industrial equipment to produce its battery cells,” added Alex Posudevsky, PhD, CEO and co-founder of 2D Polymer Batteries.
